First Show At JP Greer's

Rock and Roll Diary

Saturday night I played for the first time at JP Greer's in Weymouth Mass.

The Venue

JP Greer's is located on 296 Park Ave in Weymouth Mass. I had never been to the place until Saturday night and boy was it a fun night! My friend George lives near there and he said the food is awesome. I saw the list of specials and they had alot of really delicious things on special. They do have a full menu too.

Nicole was tending bar Saturday night. I have Nicole to thank for finding out about JP Greer's.

Besides a cool crowd, and delicious food, JP Greer's also has beautiful and friendly people working there. :-)

The Show

It was a solo show Saturday night and I played most of my usual party tunes. I fielded a request for a Jimi Hendrix version of a Bob Dylan tune early on in the night and played All Along The Watch Tower. When my friends Jimmy and Brenda came in with a group I had to do a few tunes over for good measure. There were no complaints, folks really enjoyed the tunes. :-)

It was a banner night for guest performances!

Leanne got up and sang an AWESOME version of Landslide by request. She also sang Wonderwall by Oasis. I don't have a picture of Leanne singing on Saturday night so I am including a pic of her playing ukelele (shortly after this pic was taken she played it behind her head). :-)

Gina sang a killer version of White Rabbit and then followed it up by singing The Who's Pinball Wizard. I had never met Gina bfore. I was very impressed with her singing.

Brittany got up and sang two tunes too. She sang Hey There Delilah and Jason Mraz's I'm Yours. Brittany has a lovely voice. I was really impressed by all three of the ladys who got up to sing a song. Everybody in the place loved it.

Special People

Knowing that you have friends and supporters in the crowd when you are playing a new place makes it easier. I wish had pictures of everyone but here are a few pics of some awesome people.

Stay Tuned!
It was a blast playing at JP Greer's! I can't wait to play there again. Stay tuned for the next show at JP Greer's!

April at KC's

Rock and Roll Diary

Friday night I played a show at KC's in Weymouth with 'The Two Mikes.' My friend Mike Shea played drums and my friend Mike McHugh played bass guitar.

The Venue
KC's is located on RT 53 in Weymouth. It is a cool place to grab a bite to eat, watch a game, or LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC.

The Show
We played a good variety of tunes during the show. I really like playing with these guys because we get to play some heavier tunes than I normally play. We all love Led Zep and played some during the night. During some tunes we just broke into a free form jam and then came back into the tune.

Mike Shea played drums in my first band Waterfront in Adams Shore. Mike played an awesome drum solo. Mike McHugh played some great basslines during the night especially during the Hendrix tune.

Special People
It was great to see family and friends come out for the show.

Guest Performances
My friend Jimmy joined us for a song and sang a great version of How Forever Feels.

My friend Kenny got up an played and sang an original tune.

BACK IN JUNE

We will be back to rock at KCs on Friday June 4th.

St John's April 2010

Rock and Roll Diary

Last night I played a show with my friend Chrissy White at St John's Athletic Club in Fall River Ma.

The Venue

St John's Athletic Club is a member organization on Rodman Street in Fall River. They have a restaurant, big function hall and a lounge. I play in the lounge. The environment is casual and folks play pool, sometimes dance, and generally have a good time. I love the place because the folks there always make me feel welcome. They have similar tastes in music and they love classic rock. I have been playing there so long that now when I play there it is just like playing for friends. I am lucky to call many of the people there friends.

The Show

The show was good last night and we played some new tunes. A few people started dancing around the room early on in the evening. Chrissy and I each took turns doing some solo numbers. Later in the evening we went into 'mtv unplugged mode' with the two side by side chairs(photo above). We fielded lots of requests that were all over the map and we covered most of them.

Special People

I am very grateful for my friends at St John's.

First Time At Applebee's

Rock and Roll Diary

Friday night was my first time performing at a new music venue, Applebee's in Raynham MA. It was a really fun night.
The Venue
Applebee's is the largest casual dining chain in the world, with locations throughout the U.S. and many countries worldwide.
The Show
It's a bit of an adventure when you play a new place for the first time. You don't know exactly what music the folks are expecting or what they are used to hearing. Getting the sound right in a new room can be tricky too. With the early start 8PM and the fact that Applebee's is a family restaurant I started out the show with mellow tunes. As the night when on and I had a chance to take requests from people in the crowd I picked it up and played some more upbeat tunes.
Special People
It is always great to know that you have supporters in the crowd especially playing a new place. I was lucky that there were a number of very special people in the crowd last night.

Returning to Applebee's in Raynham on Friday April 23rd!

Always Have Plan B

Rock and Roll Diary

Tonight I attended the open mic at Ricks Music World in Raynham. I got up to play and tonight I brought a couple of electronic effects with me and every intention to really rock out and play some lead guitar. Well one of the boxes failed on me. After a good dose of laughter in the room and an acknowledgement that I didn't buy the gear at Rick's I just 'punted' and played some mellow acoustic tunes. I played a straight acoustic version of She Comes from Boston by Kenny Chesney and Something in the Way She Moves by James Taylor. The moral of the story ALWAYS HAVE PLAN B ready to go :-)

Rick's has a great open mic on Thursdays. Check out Rick's Music online.

Lunchtime Music

Rock and Roll Diary

Today I gave a little musical performance during lunch hour at work. I work in high tech and some folks have been visiting from India. One has wanted to make it out to a performance at one of my shows but hasn't been able to, so I played for a group of the visitors at lunch. We have a nice area behind the building with grass, trees and a few picnic tables that was just a perfect spot on a beautiful day like today.

A coworker brought in his 12 string guitar and played along too. We have jammed with a few people during lunch hour on occasion but have gotten out of the habit lately. Hopefully we will start doing that again now.

The visiting folks from India knew Beatles tunes so I played some Beatles and they requested Hotel California. The highlight of today for me, teaching the folks from India the clapping part to The Wild Rover(No, Nay, Never). They clapped like an old pro Irish crowd. At the end of the lunch they asked to do that song again. :-)

Music makes life better :-)

Toes In The Water At Piccadilly Pub

Rock and Roll Diary

Last night I played tunes at The Piccadilly Pub.

The Venue

The Piccadilly Pub is located on RT 28 in Randolph MA. When I tell people that I play music at a Piccadilly Pub they are usually surprised to hear that they have live music. This location has a number of fun events going on during the week including live acoustic music on Saturday nights. Everytime I play there its a great time. You can find out more about what specials are available and what is going on at the Randolph Piccadilly Pub web site .

The Show

I always play the Piccadilly Pub solo. There are folks there with a variety of music tastes. I took requests for Cat Stevens, Tom Petty, Neil Diamond, new country tunes, and most of the folks like Irish tunes. I always sing drinking songs and sing-alongs there too.

My friend Brenda came up and sang a song for all the folks. She sang 'The Ghost' song :-).

Special People

Special people always make an occasion special and there were some very special people there last night!

The Road Ahead

I will be returning to play at The Piccadilly Pub on Saturday April 24th. The next two shows are at Applebee's in Raynham on Friday April 9th and St John's Athletic Club in Fall River on Saturday April 10th. The Applebee's show will be my first time playing at the venue (located in The Lowe's plaza on RT 44 in Raynham). Music starts at 8PM on Friday night and 9PM on Saturday night.
